The club has strong links to Ernest Bevin College where Mark Smith runs a full-time table tennis

coaching programme which has produced a number of highly ranked national junior players.

History of the Club

Ernest Bevin Table Tennis Club became an open community club in September 2007. The club started in response to both local demand and the availability of Ernest Bevin’s brand new sports hall which can hold 30 table tennis tables.

Table tennis was already a popular sport at the school with coaching sessions taking place before and after school, run by Mark Smith. When the community club began there was a squad of 12 players at the school who’s standards improved rapidly and who now regularly compete in competitions country wide.

With 30 tables available the club quickly attracted more local players both juniors and seniors which the club responded to providing many highly specialised coaches, mainly high ranked Chinese players. The club now provides 2 high quality structured coaching sessions; one for Beginner/Intermediate players and the other for Advanced/Excellence players. Players from both sessions compete regularly at a national level.

In 2008 Ernest Bevin Table Tennis Club entered 2 teams into the Wandsworth and District Table Tennis League for the first time. Both teams entered into Division 6 (the lowest division) and have worked their way up to currently being in division 1 and 4.

Ernest Bevin Table Tennis Club has now been running for 2 ½ years (February 2010) and currently has a membership over 70 players (male and female) ranging from 6 years old to over 70. The club benefits from being truly multicultural and has developed a friendly and supportive vibe.
